Sage Advice for fighting colds and flu:
1. Drink, Drink, Drink. It is best to drink juiced alkaline vegetables and alkaline fruits.
2. Do sinus washes to eliminate the invading virus, allergen or bacteria mechanically. Use a Netti pot or a folded paper cup. Bend over a sink, turn your head sideways and pour the solution gently into the upper nostril and allow the salt water to flow through the nose and sinuses and exit the other nostril. The solution is 1/4 teaspoon of non-iodized salt to 3/4 cup warm water. Do this often until your symptoms of sore throat and nasal congestion are gone. This can prevent the symptoms from getting to the lungs and causing a cough. This is something that can be done on a regular basis to help clean other pollutants out of the sinuses possibly preventing allergies, irritation and chronic sinus infections. A Homeopathic nasal spray called Euphorbium may also help with chronic nasal and sinus irritation.
3. Take Echinacea either homeopathically or whole standardized extract, as directed by the manufacturer. If you are pregnant, make sure to use only Echinacea Augustafolia, not Echinacea purpura. This is a natural antibiotic-like remedy.
4. Take Garlic as another natural antibiotic-like remedy. Either by capsule/pill form or better still the kitchen variety. Bake a whole clump of cloves covered in olive oil, wrapped in foil, for 1 hour and spread on toast (or anything) like butter.
5. Vitamin C can be taken. According to the late Nobel prize winning author and scientist Linus Pauling, take a gram every hour until symptoms are better.
6. Homeopathic remedies at 30x such as belladonna(sore throat, fever), pulsatilla(runny nose) and ferrum phos(fever and inflammation) and bryonia (coughs) can be very helpful. Read a text on homeopathic remedies (found at most places that sell these remedies). and match your exact symptom and its presentation to the right remedy.
7. There are good homeopathic cough medicines. For example, B & T Homeopathic Bronchial and Cough syrup. You can make a tea of red cayenne pepper, honey and lemon that stops coughs quickly, but take care if you have high blood pressure because cayenne can raise it. If you get a headache from the tea, you used too much cayenne and if it does not work, you did not use enough.
8. Fight colds and flu with these weapons early so you can avoid needing antibiotics and other harsher medicines. Also the immune system is hindered by sugar. One teaspoon of sugar can inhibit its function for 6 to 8 hours. Be careful with nutrition when you are ill.
9. Or use pharmaceuticals: Sudafed, plain Robitussin, and Tylenol. These will treat the symptoms while your body tries to heal itself.
