I am an educator by nature. Learning should never stop for us at any age. As we grow in our wisdom, every day gives us a new opportunity to learn more about our bodies: How they best work for us. How to nourish them. How to accept them. How to be the best we can be.
While attending UCSF, I audited as many courses as possible that might enhance my ability to help the women I care for. I took nutrition, infectious diseases, and alternative medicine classes offered to the medical students at UCSF in addition to the required classes for my Masters Degree in Obstetrics , Gynecology and Nurse-Midwifery. I attended Ortho Molecular Medicine Society meetings and listened to medical experts like Linus Pauling, absorbing the nutritional information being discussed.
After graduating from the UCSD/UCSF InterCampus Graduate Studies Program and receiving my Master of Science in Nursing,
I worked for 5 years at UCSD as a clinical instructor for the incoming Nurse-Midwifery and Family Nurse Practitioner students. I provided a clinical setting for students to learn and thrive. This is what I now do for women who see me for gynecologic services.
I have worked with Dr Alisa Williams since 1996. Our collaborative practice has grown during this time. If you have a gynecologic problem that needs the expertise of a physician, she is there for you!
In addition to being in mainstream medicine for a very long time and at high tech health care facilities, I have attended very special births in birth centers and at home. I understand the need for and have access to technology and pharmaceuticals in acute and chronic illnesses and blend complementary and alternatives to Western/Allopathic Medicine for educational and preventative health practices. This is accomplished by referrals and recommendations for Stress Reduction, Meditation, Nutrition, Exercise, Massage Therapy, Myotherapy, Chiropractic, Homeopathy, Alexander Technique, Felden Kries, Thought Field Therapy, Chinese and Ayurvedic Medicine.
My clients have always said that I make them feel comfortable, My collegues think that is because I care. I just want to make your yearly gynecologic experience one that you do not dread or avoid and one that makes you go home thinking about ways to improve your total health.
Some people are confused about my name or lack thereof. Long ago, nurses signed charts in hospitals each day , first with their names and subsequent entries with their initials. Mine Were SL. It stuck as my nick name then and re-emerged later.
